Review – FreedomPop free phone service.

They say nothing in life is free…

Well FreedomPop is offering completely free phone service… So what’s the catch? Well there are a few, but don’t worry this isn’t one of those “click here and just take part in one of these offers” kind of free, you do either have to pay for a device or a SIM card to get started, and then switch to a free plan before your “trial” of free a premium account runs out, but if you do switch to the free plan it is truly free.

So what do you get for free?

Right now if you get a SIM card the plan is:

200 minutes of talk

500 texts

200 mb of data

They call this the “global 200” because it works here in the US, UK, and most of Europe, with plans to add more countries soon. A device will give you a similar plan but with 500mb of data available only in the US. Neither plan has roaming charges.
Now you will need an unlocked device for the SIM card to work, and a compatible phone AT&T or T-Mobile, the devices they sell run on Sprint however.
I do have a few things to add, you will need their app installed as it uses VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) so it is sending voice as data rather than actually using the cellular network. So your phones native dialer or texting app will not work (but iMessage to iMessage will still work on iPhones). So that means call quality can have issues in some areas, but mine has been rather good.
The other thing to add is I would highly recommend not making the same mistake I did, and create separate FreedomPop accounts for each device. FreedomPop currently allows the same credit card to be used for up to 5 different accounts, so no problem there. The reason is two fold ONE if there is any problems on your account it only affects that device (more on that in a bit) and TWO something called FreedomPop friends, you can actually get free extra data (currently up to 1gb) by adding people using FreedomPop as friends on your account, and it works well, and you can actually give unused data to friends as well as request that friends give you their left over data, so it’s very useful to add your other accounts to your friends list.
So what’s the down side?
I did have a few hiccups along the way, but mostly related to not using a separate account for each of my devices. The first few people I contacted at customer service where no help at all however Pamela A, and Claribel M, where amazing and got me sorted out. Side note… If you have multiple devices on one account be sure to log in to the FreedomPop app with your phone number not your email address btw… Anyway they responded to my emails quickly and got me fixed up.
A lot of people also complain about how much battery the app used, some people have said it dramatically decreased the life of their phone battery, I’ve seen reviews that say “my phone used to last me all day now it’s dead by 2pm” I haven’t seen that much of a loss of available power but I’ll keep you posted.
So what are my final thoughts?
I mean this is truly free, yes you have the initial costs involved but for the $5 I paid for the SIM card on sale what more could I ask for?
The data is faster than my home internet and I get good service in a rural area so all in all I’m very pleased.

Now I could see how this would not be for everyone, and if you don’t switch to the free plan it will cost you about $20 a month, but that’s still cheaper than just about anything else out there. And if you need voicemail it’s less than $4 a month to add to the free plan or it comes included in the initial plan.

For what it is I think it’s pretty amazing and I’m a fan of FreedomPop.

P.S… Normally I would include a link, but I actually have a tip instead, don’t go to directly, instead google FreedomPop and then click on the first link given, they will have specials available in your area and sometimes these are pretty amazing.

Review – The Ultimate Card Magic Kit

I would like to first and foremost that I am in no way a professional magician, I have known several small magic tricks sense I was I child but rarely perform them, but have always been a fan of magic, so when I had a chance to receive The Ultimate Card Magic Trick DVD set in exchange for a review I was very excited.

The tricks are very easy to follow and taught in detail, giving tips and tricks along the way that help tremendously. I was a big fan of both the DVDs as well the bonus free tricks available on the website after signing up, the bill changing one being my favorite to perform from the web. There are several tricks on the DVD set that are simple variations, but I love to see and hear different versions, it gives you a ton of knowledge as well as letting you pick how to perform the trick as best you like.

The card mat and cards where a very nice addition, the cards are super high quality and have a nice feel, being easy to manipulate, the mat was nice giving a wonderful looking area to perform, as well as making it easier to pick up and manage cards.

The only negative things I could say are that film itself is a bit old and the low quality shows a bit compared to more modern video, but is very well made. I assumed as well it would come boxed, but came in a plastic envelope, with a well produced card telling about the product, the items inside however where individually wrapped, and and where all in good shape. (This might not be the same for everyone as my copy was sent free for review). On the other hand it dose save packaging material and causes less waist.

I am very happy to have received this DVD set, and it holds a place on my shelf next to my original book of magic I received as a child. I have been happy to share my love of magic with my son, and I have many more tricks to learn. I would highly recommend this set to anyone wanting to learn card tricks, or how they are performed.

Review – Maker Studio by ThinkFun

My son was super excited to see the kits when he got home, I received two, the Propellers Set, and Winches Set. The kits are wonderful containing all the plastic pieces required to build everything on the boxes after adding regular household items like boxes and water bottles. All the kits work together, so they can be combined to make even more things from your imagination. Me and my son had a blast doing both.
We started by building the Tow Truck from the winches set, the directions are very straight forward, and after only a few incorrect punches in the cardboard we had it figured out. I actually prefer that there isn’t exact measurements for several reasons, for one you can use several different size boxes (basically whatever you have available) and secondly it makes you work out any engineering problems that arise.

When building with the Propeller Set my son picked the plane, which was by far harder than the Tow Truck, but still very fun. I had my son come up with ideas for attaching the bottom wheels and let him figure out which one worked the best, he was very proud when they finally held strong. The kits are pretty ingenious, like a engineering problem in a box, and each having 4 different models and plans, as well as cards with challenges and tips make each of them give you hours of fun.

I am very glad to have received these for free in exchange for an unbiased review, and would highly recommend these to anyone.

Review – MatchaDNA Chasen Bamboo Whisk and Spoon

I’ve been a fan of Matcha tea for quite a while now, great for you, and I love the taste and energy it provides. When the MatchDNA Bamboo whisk arrived I couldn’t believe how nice it looked, I thought at first it would be really fragile, but I found out differently when I was repackaging it and one of the prongs didn’t go inside the included clear round plastic display box, I jammed it in and it pushed back on me surprisingly. While I’m sure I could have broken it if I had pushed any harder, I was amazed at the fact it did no damage at all.

The spoon and whisk make both a great functional pice and look great on display, the golden bamboo is beautiful and the packaging is wonderful as well, I love the golden sticker on the front, it just adds to the Asian feel. The craftsmanship that went in to it shows and I am very happy to have it on display.

Here is a quick video:

*I was really excited to be able to get the MatchaDNA Bamboo whisk and spoon for free in exchange for a review.

This is an exceptionally beautiful item in my opinion and even better… I’m excited to be able to offer a promo code for 25% off as well.

25% OFF promo code is: Y98VQ47Z (Valid for next two months)

Review – Touch Charge iPhone 6 Wireless Charging Peotective Case and Charger

I tried to figure out how many phone cables I have gone through, I honestly have no clue. I hate coming home to plug in my phone only to find my cable has quit working. Plugging and unplugging cables day in and day out will wear out even the best of cables eventually, so I was happy to be able to try out this wireless charger and base by the same company.

The case is not bulky and seems to protect the phone well, and I like the way it looks, I was surprised how small the base was, but it sits firmly in place. The lights letting you know it’s charging is nice as well. It did seem to charge slower than the cable I had used, but only very slightly so. I am very happy with both of the products and would happily recommend them.

Received both items for free in exchange for an honest review.

Review – Mega Fun 93628 Marble Fun Run 105pc Set

This is very reminiscent to me of toys from the 80s and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. It was pretty fun to put together, I set It up for my son next to his cupcakes for his birthday and all the kids (aged 4 to 7) where very impressed. The pieces fit together snugly and it did come with paper instruction, to match the layout used on the box cover, it’s a single sheet and a little tricky but not impossible to follow. The kids had the most fun creating their own designs, only needing a little help here and there.

Tons of colorful pieces

Pieces fit snugly, and came apart easily

Keep my son and other children very entertained

Some pieces can be a bit fiddly, stopping the marbles

Their are two different widths of larger pieces making smaller children a bit confused

Really small pieces are not suitable for homes with children under 3
My son was very happy to receive this as a gift, and I’m glad to have received it in exchange for an unbiased review. It was easy to show him why some pieces wouldn’t stack with others because of width and he was showing the smaller children in turn.

I would recommend this as my son played with it long after some much more expensive toys he received, and because of how all the children seemed to gravitate towards it, but would be weary of having it around small children.

Review – PureCopper hand crafted 100% copper mug

I’ve always loved the look of copper, rather it be the look of a shiny new penny or the patina on old copper tiles, nothing looks like copper and the look of this mug is superb. From the design to how well it’s put together it has a look and feel uniquely it own and stands apart from anything else in my kitchen.

I honestly haven’t decided if I want to keep it looking brand new, or let it naturally age and patina using it more as decoration. Just a tip lemon will clean copper to a nice shine, my grandmother would put table salt on half a lemon and scrub her pans to make them look brand new.

The included recipe cards put together with a copper paper clip shaped like a mug was a pleasant surprise to find inside the cup when I unwrapped it, and they are on high quality business card stock so they will hold up well.

I decided to test to see how frosty and cold the mug would stay, so I left it in the freezer overnight and wow, I can see why some mixed drinks are served in copper, it holds it temperature way longer than just a glass or ceramic mug.

I am really happy with this mug, and pleased that I could receive it in exchange for a review and I think anyone would be proud to own one.
